Junk Yard
Crazy Bob's junkyard, rebuilt for the browser. The original 1996 program runs the rules, the dot-matrix display and the music, on a machine you can explore down to the last bolt.
I played Junk Yard through my four years of high school, almost every day. It holds a dear spot in my heart.

Williams · December 1996
The meanest game in the whole darn town
A young inventor is locked in Crazy Bob's junkyard with Spike the bulldog. To escape, he builds a flying jalopy out of junk. You help him by smashing a wrecking ball into toy cars, flushing the ball down a toilet, riding the Magic Bus and dodging Spike.
It was the last game Barry Oursler designed at Williams, made in a hard year for pinball. Only 3,013 were built.

It's really in there
The machine's own 1996 software, the rules, the dot-matrix animations, and the sound board with Crazy Bob's voice and "Money (That's What I Want)", runs inside the page in an emulator. Its own service tests confirm our wiring: 57 switches, 12 coils and 64 lamps, one for one.
It's what you play: press Play and the 1996 program powers up.

Making of
From a blurry photo to 400 pixels per inch
There's no high-resolution scan of a Junk Yard playfield in public. The best photo has about 30 pixels per inch. The remaster redrew all of it, tile by tile, in the original screen-print style: 400 pixels per inch, every line within a hundredth of an inch of where it was, and every word checked against the photos.
The remastered playfieldHow to play
Collect junk. Build a jalopy. Defeat Crazy Bob.
Ten pieces of junk make five inventions. Each invention opens an adventure, adventures earn fireworks, and fireworks launch you into Outer Space.
